Supporting Service Members, Veterans, and Their Families During Military Conflicts

The challenges facing service members and the veteran community remain significant and evolving with recent U.S. military operations in the Middle East. Periods of conflict can resurface trauma and put emotional stress on many service members and veterans. In these moments, access to steady, trusted resources becomes increasingly important.

Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) made a promise more than two decades ago to meet the needs of warriors and their families. That promise continues to guide the organization today, giving the military community a dependable place to turn when support is needed most.

A Mission Built on Commitment

For 23 years, WWP® has stood beside our nation’s service members and veterans, helping them navigate the seen and unseen wounds of war.

“Wounded Warrior Project is grounded on our promise to meet the needs of warriors and family support members no matter what,” said WWP CEO Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Walt Piatt.

As global conditions shift, this promise ensures WWP services remain consistent and responsive to the evolving challenges service members and veterans may face.

“We remain committed to bringing every warrior home — mind, body, and soul,” said Piatt.

Support is always within reach. WWP offers access to programs and services that can help warriors heal.

WWP meets warriors at every stage of their journey — from the earliest moments of injury to the road of recovery that follows.

Support Overseas

As conflict in Iran continues, WWP is increasing its presence at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, where a team is already providing year-round support. This is where many injured service members receive  their first critical military hospital care after ground evacuation.

WWP teammates work alongside the medical community, connecting with wounded service members at the bedside where its mission began. These early interactions help service members feel supported during their first hours and days of treatment, reinforcing that they are not alone.

Support at Home

The ripple effects of global conflict and the demands of military service can trigger past experiences for service members and veterans at home. These reactions are not uncommon because the toll of service does not end when the mission ends. Warriors often carry that impact for years after returning home.  Families and caregivers may feel this strain as well.

Support is available to help navigate these moments. WWP offers access to peer support networks, mental health resources, community engagement opportunities, and connection to other resources that can help.

Programs Designed to Address Evolving Needs

WWP designs its programs to meet warriors where they are — in moments of uncertainty, transition, even stress. These programs support important parts of daily life and help warriors find the tools they need to thrive.

  • Building mental resilience
WWP offers mental health programs that help manage stress, anxiety, and trauma, helping warriors and families feel supported and more confident in managing their mental health.

  • Strengthening physical health
Physical health programs help warriors stay active, build strength, and improve mobility, regardless of fitness level or injury. Activities like adaptive sports and wellness coaching support healthy routines and help manage pain and sleep challenges.

  • Finding financial stability
WWP provides financial wellness programs that help warriors explore new careers, understand the benefits they’ve earned, and plan confidently for the future. Services include career counseling, skills development, and guidance on budgeting and saving.

  • Finding community and connection
Connection programs give warriors, families, and caregivers a chance to meet others who understand their experiences. Through local events, peer groups, and online communities, warriors can build friendships and support networks across the U.S., Puerto Rico, Guam, and Europe. These connections help rebuild a sense of belonging and reduce loneliness.

  • Connecting to a wider network of care
WWP connects warriors to trusted partners across the veteran and military community who bring additional expertise and resources. By convening and investing in these organizations, WWP helps fill gaps in care and ensure warriors have support beyond its own programming. Together, this network creates a stronger, more reliable system of care.
